All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
About

“As a young seminary student, even as I studied advanced Hebrew, I was never taught about how the ancient Hebrews saw and understood their world,” says Dr. Dean Davis, who began writing “Through the Eyes of the Ancients” articles for 3ABN’s website in 2011. His curiosity sparked a deep interest in the ancient Hebrews’ lives, customs, and way of thinking. “Understanding more about how they saw their world has given the Scriptures a whole new meaning for me,” he says, “and has opened my eyes to its rich, layered treasure. I invite you to take another look at the Bible—this time, through the eyes of the ancients!”

Dr. R. Dean Davis

Dr. R. Dean Davis began his career as a college Bible teacher in 1959, while studying at the Seventh-day Adventist Seminary in Takoma Park, Maryland. He and his wife Vera (Bock) spent nearly 16 years in mission service, where they raised their family and he served as a professor and president of Northeast Brazil College in the state of Pernambuco. Later, he served as chairman of the theology department at Brazil College, near São Paulo.

Returning to the United States in 1975, he studied for his Ph.D. in Religion at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. But while writing his dissertation, he took a position as a professor, and later the chairman of the Atlantic Union College Theology Department in South Lancaster, Massachusetts.

Retiring in 2008, he continued teaching part time until the college closed permanently in 2018. They had three children—Bobby Davis of Herrin, Illinois; Dawn Nielsen of Marietta, Georgia; and Linda Parsons, of Clinton, Massachusetts—and enjoyed their four grandchildren. After moving to Marietta, Georgia, in 2001, Dr. Davis wrote a sequel to his first book, as well as biblical commentaries on the prophetic books of Daniel and Revelation. Dr. Davis passed away in Marietta on February 13, 2024.
