Legendary Arranger Lari Goss Passes Away

Lari Goss

It’s with our deepest regret that we share with you the loss of 3ABN’s dear friend, Lari Goss, who passed away on January 10, 2015, at the age of 69.

Known as a legendary arranger, orchestrator, producer, songwriter, and keyboard artist, Lari was both a Grammy and Dove Award winner. His long list of critically acclaimed projects included artists such as The Cathedrals, Greater Vision, Sandi Patti, Larnelle Harris, The Gaither Vocal Band, and many others. In 2009 he was inducted into the Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame.

Lari was equally recognized for his signature orchestral arrangements for Warner Bros., Capitol, RCA, Columbia, and the world-famous London Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he has recorded several award-winning albums. His music was heard by thousands from Radio City Music Hall to the Tonight Show, and he also arranged and conducted music for such prestigious events as The Grammy Awards, and The People’s Choice Awards.

But perhaps Lari was best known to 3ABN viewers and listeners for his masterful arrangement and orchestration on our newest project, Hallelujah, We’re Home at Last! He appeared several times on the network, most notably during 3ABN’s 2014 Spring Camp Meeting.

“When I was given the songs, I realized that they were all about the Second Coming of Christ,” Lari said, “and I think that inspired me, because they were heartwarming and uplifting. They certainly encouraged me, and I enjoyed every minute of it.”

3ABN founder, Danny Shelton says, “I’ll never forget our live camp meeting program when Lari told us all how much the experience had affected him. He also told me how this music had brought him closer to Jesus, and I praise God for that!”

Lari and his wife Carolyn lived in Nashville, Tennessee, and was the proud father of four sons, Benjamin, Nicholas, Jonathan, and Cameron, and the grandfather of three. He gained great pleasure from spending time with his family, and doing what he did best, touching the hearts of people through his music.

Please join us in asking our Lord to comfort the Goss family in this time of great loss.

Tribute from Lanny Wolfe:

Producer, Danny Shelton, Daughter-Melody Shelton Firestone, and husband-Greg Firestone . . . one of so many who worked with Lari Goss shared two recent projects he has worked on with Lari. One project of “just” Lari at the keyboard playing favorite hymns has blessed me over and over again, and an ever reminding me of the special gift that God gave to Lari Goss who, in turn, has been a constant source of inspiration to me and countless others in the body of Christ. Special thanks to Danny who was the executive producer for this special project with Lari Goss.

I am deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Lari Goss, I saw him on your Hallelujah, I'm Home At Last! program. He was an awesome, gifted musician who stated how much these songs that he worked with all of you, had inspired him . . . . I will never forget that performance with him playing on the piano! I will be praying for the LORD to comfort all of his family that he leaves behind!

I was a teacher at Lari's Cass High School during the1959-61 years. I was the sponsor of the HI-Y club that Lari & Ronnie were in, & as I FREQUENTLY remind our choir members when we are practicing one of his pieces, I have the yearbook to prove it! May his family & friends find solace in his beautiful life memories!
