Molasses Cookies


  • 2+1/2 c. unbleached white flour
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/3 c. canola oil
  • 1/2 c. applesauce
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 tsp. vanilla


  • 1/2 c. cane juice crystals
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon


  1. In a medium bowl, combine dry ingredients.
  2. In a large bowl, combine wet ingredients and mix well. Stir in dry ingredients a little at a time, until a stiff dough is formed. Combine cane crystals and cinnamon.
  3. Roll dough into walnut sized balls, and roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart on oil-sprayed baking sheet, and flatten with hand.
  4. Bake at 325 degrees F for about 12 minutes, or until cookies are firm and slightly golden. Cool on wire rack. Makes 24 cookies.
