Prayer

Q. Does Prayer Really Work?

PRAYER MOVES MOUNTAINS!

A. Ellen White believed that faith and prayer were closely linked, and that there was a “divine science” to prayer that need to be mastered (Ed 257). That “science” consisted of (1) asking consistent with God’s will, (2) asking for things that He has already promised (i.e., for the Holy Spirit, a Christlike attitude, for forgiveness of sin, power and wisdom to do His work, for any gift He says we can have), (3) believing that we actually receive the things we are requesting, and (4) giving thanks to God that we have received them (ibid. 258). A surrendered life in which there is a continual awareness of need and dependence on God was also a vital element in this science of prayer.
