We serve an awesome God! A God who can take a concept and make it a reality in less than a year! A God who hears the cries of His people, and the cries of those who are potentially His, answering them while they are yet speaking. A God who leads, guides, and directs so that His purposes are realized and His goals are met! A God who restores families, turns the hearts of boys to their fathers, and teaches young men and women to be the parents He intends them to be. Ah, yes, we serve an awesome God!
At midnight on January 1, 2012, 3ABN launched the Dare to Dream (D2D) network on the G-19 satellite. What a privilege to be used of God to move forward His agenda for the inner cities.
We now have the opportunity to enter the homes of those who may not ever consider entering a church! We can teach parenting skills to babies having babies, and offer health tips to those who are sick from poor lifestyle choices. We have eight new programs on Dare to Dream, and more coming in the near future. It is an amazing privilege to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in new, innovative ways! We cannot put God in a box and think that there’s only one acceptable way to present Him. There are millions who need to hear about the love of Jesus and the special plan He has specifically for them.
I’d like to share a little story with you. A couple of months ago I was talking to one of my young male relatives who is about 18 years old. I’d never really spoken to him before, but wanted to investigate his thoughts about certain issues. So I asked him what he wanted to do with his life.
He said, rather confidently, that he wanted to be rich.
“Okay,” I said, “so what’s your plan?”
“Umm, I don’t know,” he answered.
“Do you have a dream?” I asked.
“Are you in school?”
“Then are you working?” I asked as nonchalantly as I could, and he answered that he was working at a fast-food restaurant.
There was an obvious disconnect there. I told him that God had a great plan for his life, and that he needed to talk to Him and find out what that plan was! Money may come, but we must know and pursue our purpose, first.
This is the vision I believe God has placed in my heart with Dare to Dream:
We must teach our children—all of our children, black, white, brown, and yellow—that they have value. We must show them that God has a plan for their lives, and we must give them the tools to pursue Him with all their hearts. And as they pursue Him, they must also pursue excellence. Our young people need to understand the importance of the family, as well as the role of the father as provider and spiritual leader in the household. By God’s grace, and under the unction of the Holy Spirit, we offer programming that encourages spiritual growth as well as academic achievement.
Our work is cut out for us. In fact, it’s monumental! And launching the network was just the first step.
I’m not worried, though, because we serve an awesome God!
