Trust In Our Lord

Many a time I recall getting out of my pickup truck in a snow storm to turn the hubs on the front wheels, locking in the “four wheel drive,” to give me more control.

I enjoyed testing the road surface beneath a foot or two of snow to determine a safe speed for travel. I would increase the acceleration until the tires would spin; this revealed the limit of my acceleration with control. Then I would hit the brake to see how far the truck would slide before coming to a full stop. This revealed the distance I needed to keep, when following another vehicle. Knowing these things allowed me to drive safely and confidently, with control.

But then one day I found my control to be less than dependable. I was slowing down behind a car waiting at an intersection with a four way stop, when I discovered there was ice beneath the fresh snow. My stop was going to slide further than I had expected. I felt my eyes grow bigger and bigger as I slid closer and closer to the car in front of me. Fortunately the car in front entered the intersection as I slowly slid to a stop in the place he had just occupied. 1Co 2:5 Your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

The last vehicle I acquired with four wheel drive had a real surprise for me. As I pressed down on the accelerator to see at what point the tires would spin on ice, the “electronic” four wheel drive took control away from me. As I pressed down on the accelerator the engine refused to accelerate, the tires refused to spin. The “electronic” four wheel drive brought me slowly up to speed without ever loosing traction on the ice. It was an awesome experience to lose control without ever being out of control.

And that is how it is when we give God control of our lives. There will be problems and difficulties outside of our control, but God is still in control.
Ro 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…
Ps 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

So when your road seems blocked and your future seems hopeless, if you give God control of your life, here is His promise to you.
Ex 23:20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
