There is great wisdom in men that submit themselves to the LORD and seek HIS guidance in their lives. A good friend, Pastor Hal Steenson, once told me about how he saw Ruth’s commitment to Naomi as a commitment that couples should make when they unite in marriage. He also told me that when he performed the wedding vows he incorporated Ruth’s words into them. I thought about that as I sat down and read the four chapters of the book of Ruth in light of the statement she made to her mother in law “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me” (Ruth 1:16-17), I agreed that such submission is what a husband should have for his wife and a wife for her husband. Complete surrender to one another.
As Christians we are part of JESUS CHRIST’s church thus we are HIS bride. We could see this idea clearly depicted in the last two chapters of Revelation. Is it not important then that we too submit ourselves to JESUS in complete surrender daily? As a married man I can assure you that if I rest my marriage in my commitment to my wife on the day of our wedding, the relationship won’t last. Our commitment to each other that day is important, but it is as we renew our vows to each other daily under the direction of GOD that we will find joy and everlasting happiness as husband and wife. So let’s do the same in our relationship with JESUS. Let’s renew our vows to HIM daily in this way:
1. Don’t ask me to leave you or stop following you, I just won’t do it.
2. Wherever you are heading, I am going with you.
3. Wherever you are, is where home is.
4. Our families will be one family; it’s not your family and my family, but our family.
5. We will have and serve one GOD together.
6. I will be by your side forever.
JESUS, I commit myself to you in this way by the grace of GOD, not by my might, but by HIS love.
May GOD continue to strengthen us daily as we rededicate our lives to HIM day by day!
by HIS love.
