Then saith He to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. John 20:27
3ABN attracts visitors of all descriptions. Each year the Canadian geese migrate to 3ABN, and as a result, soon we see small little “fuzz balls” known as goslings following after the adult geese. It is amazing to observe how perfectly obedient the little ones are to their parents.
In doing a little research on these beautiful geese, I found that they actually have some things in common with Seventh-day Adventists. Their major diet includes green vegetation and grains such as wheat, beans, rice and corn when they are available. During the second year of their lives, they find a mate and ordinarily stay with that mate their entire lives unless death separates them. The adult geese are often seen leading their goslings in a line, usually with one parent in the front, and the other at the back.
Earlier this week as I was driving a tractor pulling 3ABN’s finish mower over the grounds, I had the unique experience of witnessing first hand these little creatures in action. As I would approach their location on the tractor, they would move over in unison. Time and time over again I saw this happen.
With body language, the older geese seemed to give instructions to the younger ones. Perhaps there were also verbal instructions as well which was not audible to me because of the roar of the engine. Does this remind you of how God gently leads us day by day?
It is evident that God speaks to us in various ways including nature. Stop and think about it. How wonderful our lives would be if we had the same faith and confidence in our Father in heaven. We, too, would move perfectly in His will.
If only we, as humans, had a taste of the faith the baby geese had for their parents, our faith would be anchored and focused entirely on our gracious Heavenly Father at all times. We would move in unity with the will of the Father.
Won’t you join me in making that happen in our lives?
